Policy research: Mapping of the conflict and crisis prevention mechanisms at the national and local levels in ASEAN from the gender perspective'

UN Women

Bodhi undertook a research study commissioned by UN Women to map and assess the gender responsiveness of existing peace infrastructures at the national and local levels in ASEAN countries. Its purpose was to identify how gender considerations are integrated into peace infrastructure to foster more inclusive and equitable peacebuilding processes. The project assessed the types, locations, composition, capacity, roles, functions, and activities of these infrastructures across the ten ASEAN Member States, alongside relevant coordination mechanisms. This study produced evidence-based policy and programming recommendations for how the ASEAN-Institute of Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR), the ASEAN Women for Peace Registry (AWPR), and UN Women can jointly strengthen the coordination, effectiveness, and gender responsiveness of peace infrastructures. The methodology involved a bespoke analytical framework for assessing gender responsiveness and the capacity and effectiveness of coordination mechanisms, complemented by primary data collection through in-person and remote interviews, and a thorough desk review of policies and legislation.
