Women and girls in cross-border conflict contexts

XCEPT Research Fund

Bodhi conducted research on 'The Gendered Dimensions of Cross-Border Conflict in Tanzania's Mtwara and Mozambique's Cabo Delgado', examining the impact and opportunities for women and girls' livelihoods and contributions to peace. This research explored how gender norms, identities, and roles in Tanzania's Mtwara and Mozambique's Cabo Delgado regions had contributed to conflict dynamics in northern Mozambique, shaped the impact on women and girls, particularly regarding livelihood opportunities, and influenced prevailing gender norms and roles. It also assessed the opportunities and risks for women's livelihoods and their potential contributions to social cohesion and peacebuilding. It employed a mixed-methods approach, including in-depth interviews with stakeholders across four districts in Tanzania and Mozambique, complemented by focus group discussions and a review of relevant literature. The research informed policy recommendations for XCEPT's policy and programming interventions in the region and similar conflict-affected cross-border contexts.
