Security Context Analysis for NGO´s in Afghanistan
Bodhi conducted a security context analysis for Welthungerhilfe to assess changes in Afghanistan’s security landscape since the Taliban takeover in August 2021. This analysis aimed to identify locally relevant adaptation strategies for Welthungerhilfe and other INGOs to continue delivering effective programming. The study focused on examining the security context, describing emerging threats, conducting a gender-specific analysis of risks for women, and developing evidence-based recommendations. Bodhi used a rigorous mixed-methods approach comprising three phases: inception, data collection, and analysis and reporting. During the inception phase, Bodhi organised a meeting with Welthungerhilfe to review the methodology and develop a conceptual framework. In the data collection phase, Bodhi conducted a comprehensive desk review and approximately 50 key informant interviews (KIIs) with stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and Welthungerhilfe staff. The analysis phase involved collating and coding data in NVivo, conducting content and narrative analysis, and organising a validation workshop with Welthungerhilfe. The final report included actionable recommendations and an executive summary. This analysis provided Welthungerhilfe with insights into the security context, emerging threats, particularly to women, and strategies for adapting operations while mainstreaming gender-responsiveness.
